Location Tracking Firm Unacast Reports Data Was Hacked in Norway, Broadcaster Reveals

Location tracking company Unacast has informed the Norwegian government of a hacking incident, as reported by Norwegian public broadcaster NRK on Friday.

Rumors surfaced online last week alleging that Unacast's data broker subsidiary, Gravy Analytics, had fallen victim to a cyberattack. Experts who spoke to Reuters confirmed that the leaked data shared online appeared to be authentic. However, Unacast has not responded to multiple requests for comment.

The document published by NRK, addressed to Norway's data protection authority, details that the breach involved the theft of information from a Gravy Analytics web server using a "misappropriated" key. According to Unacast's legal representatives, BakerHostetler, the breach was discovered on January 4, but the exact timeline is still under investigation.

BakerHostetler also noted that a preliminary investigation indicated some of the stolen files "could contain personal data."

Attempts to reach Norway's data protection authority went unanswered after hours on Friday, and BakerHostetler did not immediately respond to messages. Unacast has also remained silent despite repeated inquiries.
